The rapid growth of Forensic Science in South Africa has culminated in a need for regulation and accreditation. The Biomedical Forensic Science group at UCT is instrumental in the creation of a Forensic Science Academy, which was launched in April 2018, at UCT. This is in its early development and we hope that this Academy will lead to accreditation for members, which should be a pre-requisite to practise Forensic Science in our country and in our courts. The instruction and training of Forensic Science will also be regulated, with training Institutions having to be accredited on the forensic content of their degrees, courses, and workshops in Forensic Science.
